Conservation Begins with Awareness

Yayasan Penyu Indonesia (YPI) believes that knowledge is the foundation of meaningful change. Through our environmental education programs, especially those focused on sea turtle conservation, we strive to raise awareness across all age groups, from children to adults. Using various approaches, we help communities understand the importance of protecting sea turtles and their habitats.

We visit schools to introduce children to sea turtles through engaging educational tools like storybooks, flashcards, puzzles, and interactive games. Early childhood is the perfect time to foster a love for nature, and we are dedicated to inspiring the next generation to grow into responsible and environmentally conscious individuals. While YPI’s primary mission is sea turtle conservation, we also emphasize the broader importance of preserving ecological balance.

We conduct Training of Trainers (TOT) programs for sea turtle leaders from different regions, empowering them to become conservation advocates within their communities. We also engage directly with local residents through awareness campaigns and install informative signage in conservation areas. To reach an even wider audience, we organize public campaigns and distribute educational brochures.

Beyond our education programs, YPI remains committed to continuous learning and capacity building by actively participating in symposiums, training sessions, and open discussions with like-minded partners who share our vision.

#KerenTanpaSisik

Join us in supporting this campaign to stop the hunting of hawksbill sea turtles. Their population is rapidly declining because their beautiful shells are often used to make jewelry and accessories. The way these shells are taken is incredibly cruel — the turtles are left to die slowly in the ocean. Turtle shells are only beautiful on the turtles themselves — and you are #KerenTanpaSisik!

#SayNOtoHeadstarting

Every sea turtle deserves the best chance at life, which means being protected in their natural habitat and allowed to follow their natural life cycle. Hatchlings should be released into the ocean right after they hatch so their imprinting process and survival instincts aren’t disrupted.
