Yayasan Penyu Indonesia (YPI) collects data and conducts monitoring to ensure our conservation efforts remain relevant to current challenges. Working alongside scientific experts, we gather accurate data on sea turtle populations to develop well-informed conservation strategies. We also tag turtles with metal markers and microchips (PIT – Passive Integrated Transponder tags) to track their numbers and study their behavior. We are also continue to deploy satellite transmitters to gain deeper insights into their migration patterns.
Beyond research, YPI is dedicated to identifying and mitigating threats to sea turtle habitats. We actively work to reduce the impact of human activities that endanger their survival.
Despite legal protections, the illegal trade of sea turtle products remains a serious concern. YPI remains vigilant in combating this issue, reporting any instances of illegal trade—whether discovered firsthand or through online platforms—to the relevant authorities in Indonesia. We also encourage the public to play an active role in monitoring and reporting any illegal activities to help protect these endangered species.
