Sea Turtles

Turtles have an exceptional navigation ability that allows them to return to the beach where they were born.

Out of 1,000 hatchlings, only 1 to 2 survive to adulthood.

The main predators of adult turtles are sharks and humans.

An adult sea turtle can weigh up to 900 kg and live for over 100 years.

A turtle’s shell (carapace) is a part of its body—it cannot be removed or grow back.

At around 10–20 years old, female turtles return to their birthplace to lay eggs, digging nests up to 70 cm deep using their back flippers.

Hatchlings must reach the ocean immediately after hatching to begin their "swimming frenzy" phase. They are born with stored nutrients that help them travel up to 40 km!
